Pippin Auditions

Pippin Audition Forms

WE NEED YOUNG ACTORS!

Young actors (Pippins) have always played an integral role in the panto at Chipping Norton and unlike other Christmas shows they get great characters, lines and songs.

This year we're looking for twelve children between 9-14 years old to make up three teams as part of our company of professional actors. Each team will perform in 30(ish) shows over the Christmas period, including one on either Christmas Eve, Boxing Day or New Years Eve.

How our auditions work:

Anyone can audition to be a Pippin, you just need to let us know that you will be coming along. You can do this by phoning our Box Office (01608 642350) and selecting which of the two dates works best for you.

As part of the audition you will take part in some fun drama games and if you can learn a short song off by heart to sing for us that would be great. It’s not too scary, we promise!

To be a Pippin you must be willing to act, dance and sing and to enter into the magic of pantomime.

COMMITMENT REQUIRED

We will have 3 teams of 4 children. If chosen, each child will appear in approximately 30 performances, plus dress rehearsals. A rota will be drawn up to indicate who is on duty for each performance. At this stage we cannot specify the particular dates that each child will be performing on, therefore total commitment over the above period of time is required. Each Pippin will receive £2 per performance as remuneration and thanks for their time and effort.

Please do not accept the role of a Pippin if you cannot commit to the entire period. Performances run 6 days a week including Saturdays and Sundays, Christmas Eve, Boxing Day and New Year’s Eve. There are no performances on Christmas Day or New Year’s Day.

TRANSPORT

All transport to and from The Theatre is arranged by parents/guardians. As there are two performances a day this can involve a lot of dropping off and picking up.

SCHOOL

Due to matinee performances during term-time, each child will be absent from school for approximately 5 full days and 11 half days. It is the responsibility of parents/guardians to obtain written permission from the child’s school for them to participate. The Theatre will then make an application to the County Council regarding a performance licence for each child.

DURING PERFORMANCES

The Theatre employs approved and licensed chaperones during the pantomime who will be with the children at all times. Children will be on stage at various points throughout the performance but will be given breaks. The performance will last 2 hours (including interval) with the earliest performances starting at 10.00am and latest evening performances ending at 9.00pm.

PIPPINS PANTO

This is a rather jolly Chippy tradition that takes places towards the end of the run. All the Pippins will come together to put on a 1 hour spoof version of the panto for their family, friends and the cast. There will be some additional rehearsals and time commitments for this, but we will fit it in as best we can around the shows.
