About our events

Create, express, have fun!

Chippy Youth Theatre has been running for over 30 years, and continues an incredible legacy of imagination and enrichment for children and young people.

Devising is key to our Youth Theatre sessions, providing a freeing opportunity to play with new ideas, invent, experiment, and gain independence through offering suggestions and decision-making. Through focused exercises and fun games, participants will learn the art of collaboration and will build up their confidence through working as part of a team and meeting new friends!

Led by experienced practitioners and in our professional theatre, participants will discover the backstage areas and get opportunities to learn about how lighting and sound enhances performance, as well as perform on our stage! The groups are organised according to school year, meaning that sessions are targeted to the needs of each age group. Uniquely, participants have a say in what they explore; our Year 10+ group recently requested Shakespeare!

Youth Theatre gives the young people an exciting opportunity to practically explore topics from school in a fun and engaging environment, as well as acting as a safe space for children and teenagers to explore their feelings and engage with the ever-changing world around them.

Youth Theatre is particularly focused on drama and acting – if you want to add some singing and dancing into the mix, check out Youth Musical Theatre.

For those with additional needs we are proud to present Youth Theatre Open and Youth Theatre SEN. Each of these groups offer a more relaxed environment with additional support.

A group of children are performing on stage; they stand with powerful stances. They stick their tongues out at the camera in a playful and defiant way.

"It is fun and joyful, and you immediately feel part of a group!"
