Job Description

We are looking for an Assistant Stage Manager (ASM), for our pantomime The Snow Queen, written by Toby Hulse and directed by Caroline Leslie, at The Theatre Chipping Norton. This role will support the production during technical rehearsals, and the first two weeks of performances.

We are a small-scale theatre in a listed building, set in the heart of the idyllic Cotswold’s town of Chipping Norton. Our pantomime packs a punch and has received numerous UK Pantomime Award nominations. With an original script and music each year, the show is packed full of fun, song dance and silliness. This year’s production is the story of The Snow Queen but, as with all Chipping Norton pantomimes, there’s a twist!

ASM duties include:

  • Cover an onstage track during technical rehearsals, dress rehearsals and performances during the opening weeks of the run. This is a physical role that will include moving set pieces, setting props and costume.
  • Supporting the Prop Maker in creating original props for the production, including sourcing, finishing, paper props and basic prop making.
  • Supporting the technical and stage management team in the preparation of stage and technical equipment for rehearsals and performances.
  • Working closely with the other ASM, Company Stage Manager, Technical Manager and Production Manager.

Job requirements:

  • Previous professional experience in an ASM role, including prop-making, with prior pantomime experience as an advantage
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure
  • Excellent problem solving skills and a proactive attitude
