About The North Cotswold Chamber Choir: A Song of Splendour

Please note: This is an external event not produced or promoted by The Theatre and for which Chipping Norton Theatre is acting as a ticketing agent.

Conducted by George Parris with Chelys Consort of Viols and Edward Woodhouse, soloist.

A Programme marking the 400th anniversary of the English Renaissance composer Orlando Gibbons, with some of his most exquisite music for voices and viols. The programme features verse anthems and instrumental fantasias with a few works from other English composers.

The five members of Chelys are among the UK's leading exponents of the viol, particularly as a consort instrument, and their consort viols are strung entirely in gut, which lends them a particularly distinctive sound. They frequently collaborate with other period instrumentalists and singers, especially enjoying repertoire for voices and viols.
