The Theatre have a upto 25 places on the Oxford Town and Gown 10km run to fundraise for our Life Begins at 50 campaign this year. It’s a great chance to experience an iconic Oxford event whilst supporting your lovely local Theatre.

Established in 1982 Bidwell’s Oxford Town and Gown’s unique route is the only closed-road City Centre 10k in Oxford with a glorious stretch along the River Cherwell and finish in the University Parks. In 2019, the run was awarded Best 10k in South East England by the Running Awards.

Entries for The Theatre runners are subsidised, offering you a saving on the standard entry fee of £32.50, in return for which runners must fundraise for The Theatre. There are two entry fee options available, so you can chose the one that best suits you.

What is the Town & Gown

It’s a charity run established by Muscular Dystrophy UK (MDUK). Taking part for the Theatre means you will be supporting both MDUK and The Theatre Chipping Norton.

Please note that the run starts on South Parks Road, a short walk from the Event Village in University Parks. It is therefore imperative that 10k runners arrive at University Parks in time for the warm-up at 9.35am. Our Compere will instruct runners to make their way to the start after the warm-up, seeding themselves according to their expected finish time as they do so.

Where does the event take place?

The Event Village is in the University Parks, OX1 3RF, near the cricket pavilion. The exact location can be seen using What3Words ///sounds.title.scout

You'll find everything you need pre- and post-race in the Event Village: Information and Baggage Tents, Registration Tent for on-the-day entries, food stalls, and toilets.

The Event Village is where the pre-race warm-ups and prize presentations take place. Please note that the races themselves start on South Parks Road, a short walk from the Event Village in University Parks. It is therefore imperative that 10k runners arrive at University Parks in time for the warm-up at 9.35am and Junior 3k runners arrive for their warm-up by 8.50am. Our Compere will instruct runners to make their way to the start after the warm-up, seeding themselves according to their expected finish time as they do so.

Who can take part?

The 10k is open to everyone over the age of 16.

It’s a race that attracts local runners, including university students, club runners and fun runners. If you are a wheelchair user or have any accessibility requirements and would like to take part, contact us on [email protected] and we’ll make the necessary arrangements.

Theatre Fundraiser Entry

We have organised upto 25 places on the 10k run to fundraise for The Theatre. Entries must be purchased through the Theatres website (here) and not though the main town and gown registration page.

All entrants in the Theatre team will commit to a minimum fundraising target for The Theatre. Sponsorship should be collected online through our Just Giving event page. Upon entering you will sent details to join our Just Giving fundraising page to share with your network and also add any donations or offline fundraising to. At least 50% of your target must be raised by 12 March and the full amount by 31 May 2024. If you have not reached 50% by 12 March The Theatre reserves the right to withdraw your entry to the run.

Can I store baggage?

Yes there will be a large baggage marquee in the event village. Please write your race number on your tag provided and attach this to your bag. Race numbers will be checked when collecting your bag.

Goody bags

Once you’ve finished the race, you'll receive your medal along with a goody bag containing some free product samples.

Water

There will be a water station on route and at the finish line. There will also be a number of food and drink options within the Event Village. To reduce and plastic waste, water on route and the finish line will be handed in recyclable cups. Water bowsers will also be available to fill your own water bottles in the Event Village.

Race packs and chip-timing

Race packs will be sent in the post before the event to the address provided on registration. Your Race Pack will include your running bib, which will have the timing chip fixed onto it. If you provided your mobile number on entry, you’ll get an SMS with your chip-time shortly after you finish the race. All chip-timed results will be available on www.chiptiming.co.uk after the event.
