AVERIL MANSFIELD
At just eight years old, Averil Mansfield dreamt of becoming the first female vascular surgeon. After training at a time when women made up just two per cent of the profession, she went on to become exactly that. After a successful career, she became the first ever female professor of surgery, being awarded a CBE in 1998 and the NHS Heroes Lifetime Achievement Award in 2018.
Life in Her Hands is her trailblazing life story. Her account shines a light on how the medical world has changed, but still has a long way to go for the women finding their place within it. She reflects on where the medical world could and should go next.
Averil will be interviewed by Sarah Ditum.
