IAN SEYMOUR-WELLS EXHIBITION

Playing at The Owen Mumford Gallery

29th May-24th June

About The Artist:

A charming but shy man, Ian Seymour Wells (1937-2019) was the drawing tutor at Central St Martins who was more comfortable promoting others than himself. Recognised in the Australian art world and a British RA member, he exhibited in London during the 60s and 70s but chose a quieter introspective life as an artistic diarist and observer.

Ian is an Honourary member of CNArts - see www.cnarts.org for more information.

About The Exhibition:

Ian’s passion for drawing, his view of human emotion and motion saw him in the cafes of Chipping Norton sketching on napkins and newspapers on a daily basis for the past 20 years. His observation of the life of others with pencil and pen were rarely shown, although he would always be prepared to talk to others about their works.

In this retrospective, a collection of his unique newspaper drawings are seen for the first time.  Ian’s life drawings, still life, landscape, portrait paintings, and inks have been collected and will also be on show.

Curated by Lesley Wildman RCA , this is an opportunity to see this collection and the talent that is Ian Seymour Wells whose work has remained hidden until now.
